The best thing I read today anywhere was a piece in Denverite about the fact that the new buyers of the Colburn Hotel were going to keep the tenants in place, while making improvements to the building.
There will be some changes, but it’s been years since I’ve read something like this, in a quote (below) from Kimball Crangle, Colorado market president from Gorman & Company.
“Gentrification doesn’t just happen to homes,” Crangle said. “We’re working to preserve what we can in Denver. Adding affordability, hedging against gentrification and maintaining places like this is a huge part of what we do.”
The Colburn is a fixture in Capitol Hill, though for many people, the building is merely a home for Charlie Brown’s, a restaurant and bar that is a great place to spend time with your friends.
It is one of those establishments here that is truly egalitarian. Sort of like Argonaut. There are high rollers, and people carefully meting out their cash (in the latter case, nickels). I’ve spent many a happy evening in Charlie Brown’s; here’s hoping those living in the Colburn can say the same thing about their homes well into the future.
It’s a transaction that has true merit.

Thanks, Richard. Housing in Denver is impossible for many people because of the price tag or the rent.
