At around 2 o’clock this afternoon, Denver’s Department of Community Planning and Development sent out an alert that a release addressing the “new and improved” cool roof / green roof Green Buildings Ordinance was posted on the department’s website. The release outlines the measure adopted last night by Denver City Council.
The release announces that the department will host an open house on Nov. 15 to discuss building permits related to the new ordinance. The session is intended for “developers, contractors, property owners, and other interested individuals to discuss the flexible options available for buildings under the new Green Buildings Ordinance.” (Check out the first link below for details in the press release.)
The session is from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., in the Denver Post Building Auditorium, at 101 W. Colfax Ave. In a recent meeting on the ordinance shift, it was discussed that roofing permits in Denver had dropped like a rock since the original proposal was approved by voters. So now people can move forward on new roofs.
The council vote last night got good coverage today – in Denverite and the Denver Post – along with a website for the Living Architecture Monitor, based in Toronto. Toronto is the first North American city to adopt a green roof ordinance, back in 2009. That ordinance formed the basis of the measure voters approved last November.
